Satish K. Kaura
Chairman & Managing Director

Mr. Satish Kumar Kaura is the Chairman & Managing Director of the Samtel Group. He founded the Group in 1973. Under his leadership, Samtel has evolved into a world-class manufacturer of high technology electronic display devices for televisions, avionics and professional applications. He has steered the Group to its current leadership position by relying on indigenously developed in-house technology.

Mr. Kaura is the Chairman of the Confederation of Indian Industry's Industrial Policy Committee and is a Fellow of the Indian National Academy of Engineering. He is also a member of Defence Research & Development Organization’s Review Committee & Prime Minister’s Scientific Advisory Council. In the past, he has been President of Electronic Components Industries Association and served as Chairman of Confederation of Indian Industry (Northern Region).

Mr. Kaura is the recipient of numerous awards and honors. He is the first recipient of Indian Institute of Technology’s (Kanpur) Distinguished Alumni Award (1989). The Electronic Industries Association of India and Consumer Electronics & TV Manufacturers' Association have honored him with their ‘Electronics Man of the Year’ awards. In 1994, HRH Prince Phillip awarded Mr. Kaura the Care for Nature Award in recognition for his concerns for environment protection. The Lucknow Management Association honored him with the Uttar Pradesh Transformational Leadership Award in 2002, for his contribution in strengthening the economy of the state. The Society for Information Display conferred a Special Recognition Award in 2005 for his outstanding entrepreneurial leadership in the display industry in India.

Mr. Kaura was awarded the Padma Shri by the Government of India in 2004 for his distinguished services to the nation, in the field of Science and Engineering.

Mr. Kaura holds an engineering degree from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur and a Masters Degree in Electronics, from Carleton University, Canada.

D.V. Gupta
Executive Vice President

D.V. Gupta is a Post Graduate in Chemistry with a subsequent Post Diploma in Business Administration with specialization in Cost & Budgetary Control and Materials Management, and has 35 years of industry experience.

He began his career with in the synthetic fibre industry in 1972, and gained experience in Quality, Process control, Improvement projects, Production and Commercial Areas; along with getting Six-sigma training.

He moved from RP Goenka group to join Samtel in 1987, and after a few years of managing exports, took charge of Teletube Electronics as commercial head. As Business Manager of this SBU, he lead the unit on a high growth path by improving margins, and entering into new product and market segments including Indian and overseas defence. He later moved to Samtel India Ltd., and then to Samtel Glass, Kota as Vice President (Operations). He currently leads the operations at Samtel Color as Executive Vice President.

Rajesh Kakkar
VP - Strategic Planning & Business Development

Rajesh Kakkar is Vice President - Strategic Planning & Business Development, for Samtel Group. He is a Chemical Engineer from IIT, Delhi with an MBA from IIM, Ahmedabad.

He started his career in sales and marketing with Grindwell Norton Ltd. and followed it up with a stint with ICI India Ltd., where his experience included creating and fructifying a new business opportunity in a ‘commodity’ market. His other assignments in ICI included corporate affairs and as business head for catalysts.

He has been with the Samtel group since June 2000, and takes care of strategic planning, environment scanning and implementation. Samtel’s acquisition of Thales’ CRT unit in Germany is one such example, a relatively rare example of an Indian company taking over a high tech company in a developed country and becoming an Indian MNC.

He is responsible for the group’s foray into avionics and defense displays, and has a played a key role in Samtel’s joint ventures with HAL and Thales.
